Welcome....
Soulport is a place...
....or perhaps it is more like a doorway you can pass through to get to a place.
Or could it be a journey we all take, each in our own way, reaching the destination via a billion different routes?
Soulport began with a visionary experience, my first and only. I have never considered myself to be in any way psychic, but it felt like a gift sent to me from someone, somewhere else; certainly from beyond my conscious self in the here and now.
Whatever the source of the gift was, it was delivered complete with name. The word "Soulport" did not exist anywhere until that moment.
For a decade and a half since, I have pondered and wondered, trying to think of ways in which I could "create" Soulport out there in the world, according to the template handed to me. I have had many moments of guilt and frustration. I have always felt unequal to the apparent loftiness of the concept of Soulport and overwhelmed by what it seems to be asking of me.
It is as if I am a stonemason's apprentice whose master has left me holding the blueprint of a cathedral, with orders to build it on a bare piece of land without the necessary skills, tools or materials. Surely there has been some mistake? You can't mean me?
But lately I have come to wonder whether, by offering the vision to you and inviting you to share your own story and your own vision, I will find that Soulport builds itself, gathering what it needs from us as we share our energy and our inspiration.
As far as I can tell, Soulport seems to be about connecting with, and freely expressing, that mysterious part of us we call our soul in the workplace and through our work.
It is undeniable that many workplaces are soulless, full of misery and stress. Why? Perhaps Soulport will help us to discover how this has come about, and inspire us with ideas and strategies for reversing the trend.
I feel certain that there are organisations out there, large and small, embodying Soulport's message already. I invite you to tell me how they do that via the Contact page. With your permission I will publish your stories and ideas here on Soulport so that the energy can spread....
....and Soulport, whatever it is, may gradually ripple out, gathering momentum, healing and transforming all our work and our workplaces so that they become happier, more soulful places for everyone.
Then, just maybe, Soulport will become what it was meant to be; and perhaps it will lead each of us, as individuals, towards reconnecting with our inspiration and creativity in order to enrich our work and transform ourselves into something much closer to who we really are.
And maybe it won't stop there....
Although the vision allowed me a glimpse of what Soulport is, I don't believe I have seen its entirety yet.
I feel certain, though, that Soulport has to do with accepting and honouring that which ought, surely, to be self-evident: that each person, however elevated or lowly within an organisation, is not merely a resource to be used, like a box of pencils or a desktop computer.
Each person is a spark of eternal and infinite consciousness on a journey through this life, whose work, far from being just a means of earning money, represents another opportunity to learn and grow in mind, heart and soul.
Perhaps Soulport will encourage the idea that, in order to reach a position of authority within any organisation, we will need to show that we have achieved a degree of self-knowledge and inner awareness, which would then be expressed via our wise and compassionate management of the people in our care, as we nurture their own process of self-reflection, with a view to discovering and living out their soul's purpose for them in the world.
Or perhaps, at its simplest, Soulport will promote the idea that we can, at intervals throughout the working day, step aside for a moment and....what the heck? Walk? Breathe? Reflect? Remind ourselves that we exist, maybe? Ask ourselves WHY we are alive, here, now?
I guarantee that the answer to that question, when it comes, will have nothing to do with sacrificing our best selves to the demands of making a living, and becoming so tired, stressed and miserable in the process that we are unable to live creative, effective and happy lives beyond the workplace.
The first step for me is to share the vision with you, so click on "The Vision" page to read how I experienced it.
Somehow, Soulport will become what it was meant to be; and, at the same time, I believe that all of us who participate in these pages will find that it helps us a little way along our own path, towards a destination we were always meant to reach....
